02.19.10 Book Hill Partner Ira Sockowitz will lead the firm's effort to help World T.E.A.M. Sports reorganize and grow as a leader in both the disabled and military family communities. The organization believes that “The Exceptional Athlete Matters” (T.E.A.M.) and combines people of all cultures and with or without disabilities together for its remarkable endeavors, whether as athletes, volunteers or supporters of the events.

Since 1993, the not for profit World T.E.A.M. Sports has hosted challenging athletic events combining disabled and able persons to provide inspiration to individual participants and to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities throughout society. In recent years, the emphasis has been on working with returning disabled and able-bodied Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans and their families. To learn more, visit www.worldteamsports.org.

“I am honored to be part of the effort to foster the growth of this remarkable organization,” stated Ira Sockowitz. “Their efforts to build inclusive events as well as to educate the public about the capabilities of people with physical handicaps are both admirable and all too necessary. In addition to regular, annual events, there is already a major effort already underway for the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in 2011 that will emphasize the brave men and women who have been fighting our wars ever since and the needs of those who have become disabled doing so.”

					NY Times Focuses on BHP-Brokered Alex Rodriguez-Taylor Hooton Foundation Partnership as Critical to Star's Breakthrough World Series

	    <text>

11.02.09 The NY Times credited the partnership between Yankees star Alex Rodriguez and the Taylor Hooton Foundation as critical to Mr. Rodriguez's stellar season, culminating in a World Series win. “Aided by his bat and an astute apology, Alex Rodriguez is ending the baseball season not as a former steroids user but as a home run hero. . . . He followed through on his spring training pledge to work with Don Hooton, an antisteroid activist whose program is aimed at high-school-age athletes.”

“As part of their agreement, Hooton would not reveal the extent of Rodriguez's commitment other than to say they had visited several schools. He did recall sitting with Rodriguez at a restaurant in Tampa, Fla., last spring, soon after his public admission, the two of them trying to figure out what his message would be.

‘“He kept using the word ‘balanced,' ” Hooton said. “He said, ‘Don, when I wasn't using steroids, I always felt more balanced, more whole, than when I did.' I said, ‘Alex, that's your message right there.' Here we are, less than a year later, he's back to hero status. It's not all that complicated.'”

BHP helped develop and broker the agreement between Mr. Rodriguez and the Foundation.

9.01.09 BHP Partner Rob Housman attended an anti-steroid event with NY Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, Maryland Congressman Elijah Cummings and Taylor Hooton Foundation President Don Hooton at Millford Mill High School.

The Baltimore Sun said “‘One of the things I said in spring training is I wanted to turn a negative into a positive, and I meant that,' said Rodriguez, who has admitted to using steroids from 2001 to 2003 while with the Texas Rangers. ‘And then the other thing I kind of vowed to myself is I wanted to play more and talk less. So that's that . . . In partnership with Don Hooton, perhaps the best-known anti-steroids advocate in the country and co-founder of the Taylor Hooton Foundation, Rodriguez has been speaking to students twice a month for the past three months, without advance promotion.”
